ITC Arid was designed by Rob Leuschke in 1997 as a lively calligraphy typeface which looks as though it was put to paper with a piece of charcoal. Novelty songs and their often crazy or extra-long titles were all the rage at the beginning of the 20th century. A piece of sheet music for the 1920 song "When Chu-Ching-San weds Paddy McCann" had the title hand lettered in an unusually bold form of Asian-inspired lettering. This has been recreated digitally as the type font named for the song - Chu Ching San JNL.

Chank worked with Josh Eshbach, an intern from Minneapolis College of Art and Design, to create Cocaine as the Chank Font of the Month for November 2000. Inspired by Speedball type designs of the ’20s and ’30s, Cocaine has been redrawn and streamlined for use in the digital age. Curvy and round and relishing in its idiosyncrasies, Cocaine recalls vintage French wine posters and antique sheet music covers.

The musical was based on the hit 1933 stage play that introduced the song "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". The play itself was based on the Alice Duer Miller novel "Gowns by Roberta".
