Gábor Kóthay in Hungary has developed an archaic identity largely based upon lettering from a rare Type Specimen of the Jesuit Academy Press of Tyrnavia (1773). They have developed many baroque style typefaces of Hungarian derivation. Gábor wanted an authentic handwriting revival from that age as well. La Danse is a 'facsimile' font, based on the manuscript of an inventory found in the original Tyrnavia specimen. The manuscript was written in an archaic Latin alphabet therefore some modern interpretations have been inserted.

Impresssionable JNL is a font created from samples printed from a vintage rubber stamp toy set. This is a limited character design without spacing or kerning in order to preserve the hand-made look of inkpad printing on paper. A few extra punctuation glyphs, a percent sign and Euro were added to the original characters. At smaller sizes (72 point or less), the letters resemble the imprints of the stamps, but at higher sizes, they take on a different look of deconstructed lettering.

Open Case JNL is the distant cousin to the 2009 release by Jeff Levine Fonts called Cold Case JNL, as both were based on sets of lettering stencils designed and manufactured by the Huntington Oil Cured Stencil Company (originally of Huntington, New York and later of Delray Beach, Florida). Italian type designer Maurizio Osti and American type designer Jane Patterson created this display FontFont in 2003. The family contains 4 weights and is ideally suited for advertising and packaging, music and nightlife as well as poster and billboards. FF Folk provides advanced typographical support with features such as ligatures, alternate characters, case-sensitive forms, and stylistic alternates.The font was based on the original alphabet created by Ben Shahn in 1940. It comes with proportional lining and tabular lining figures.

Originally, Viktor Solt-Bittner developed Attorney as a custom font for a law firm, hence its name. Attorney shows a systematic, yet unconventional placing of its serifs, hard corners and a clean design. The typeface was produced by Schriftlabor’s type director, Lisa Schultz. Attorney consists of 7 weights, from Light to Black, each of them accompanied by an italic, totaling in 14 styles. All of them contain several figure sets, small caps and many alternative forms, which are accessible by OpenType features.

About 7 years ago, I released a beautiful (imho) Art Deco inspired font called Weltschmerz. Weltschmerz was an all-caps font and I always wanted to do a lower case version as well. But as things so often go in life, I never found the time and forgot about it. Some time ago, I ‘rediscovered’ my good old Weltschmerz font and remembered that I wanted to create a lower case version. Without further ado: here is Neuer Weltschmerz (‘New Weltschmerz’). I redid the whole font, better kerning, better spacing, better looks… and with a proper lower case! I did keep the original handwritten look intact - because, well, it IS hand made!

Hanseat is a profonts typeface family by Ralph M. Unger, heavily inspired by Germany’s official DIN 1451 Engschrift. Originally, the German DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung / German Committee for Industrial Standardization) typefaces were taken as the standard traffic fonts for street signs and house numbers. During the 1980s, the DIN fonts became digitally available for sign making systems, initially again primarily for traffic sign purposes. However, later on, the DIN fonts became also popular in the world of designers and art directors. Hanseat is a modern, contemporary interpretation of the DIN fonts, responding to the ever growing demand for such typeface designs reflecting the spirit of the industrial area.

Salome is a revival, normalization and elaborate expansion of a 1972 film face called Cantini. The original film type, released by a tiny independent outfit called Letter Graphics, looked like it was hand drawn with little consideration for consistency in essential lettering flow measurements, like angles, stroke widths, and vertical metrics. All these issues have been resolved in this digital version, and the original character set, including the whole lot of alternates, was entirely redrawn and expanded to include even more alternates and many useful ligatures, as well as extended support for Latin-based languages. Combining elements of early 20th century art nouveau with common 1960s and 1970s signage and poster lettering flair, Salome uses curls and curves to wave its fantastic shapes in a most hypnotic dance. Philip Bouwsma’s offbeat mind, always working in mysterious ways, brings us one of the unlikeliest syntheses of historical influences in a perfectly fluid, organic, and highly expressive connected script. Tupelo takes its inspirational roots from the handwritings of two of the most influential men in world history: Elvis Presley and Abraham Lincoln. It took a little research and analysis on Bouwsma’s part to reveal that The King’s and Honest Abe’s methods of writing shared a common ancestor: a writing system they had both learned as youths during their early school years. While Tupelo’s lowercase maintains the slant, color, texture, and flourish of Elvis’s handwriting, its uppercase is the embodiment of Lincoln’s well-versed originality. Maison Luxe is a revival of a very old font designed in France in or around the year 1820. You may have seen this font in the past under the names of Circus, Roma, Madame and Gillé Classic. As of November 2016 we have changed the name of this font from Gillé Classic to Maison Luxe which means Luxury House in French. For many years Joseph Gillé was credited as the original designer of this font however we've recently been contacted by a type historian in France reporting that he could not find any evidence supporting Joseph Gillé as the designer and to the best of his knowledge an artist by the name of Sylvestre may be the true designer. If you love this classic font then you're sure to enjoy the alternate version also with a matching lowercase available from FontMesa under the name of Home Style. This version of the classic with its squared off shadow is true to the original design where Home Style has diagonal lines creating a cast shadow. The purpose of the original DIN 1451 standard was to lay down a style of lettering which is timeless and easily legible. Unfortunately, these early letters lacked elegance and were not properly designed for typographic applications. Ever since its first publication in the 1930’s, several type foundries adopted the original designs for digital photocomposition. By early 2000, it became apparent that the existing DIN-based fonts did not fulfil the ever-increasing demand for a diverse set of weights and additional support for non-Latin languages. Parachute® was set out to fill this gap by introducing the PF DIN series which has become ever since the most comprehensive and sophisticated set of DIN typefaces. Main Street is a revival of the old font Soutache, the original version of this decorative alphabet was created in 1873 by Julius Herriet, a type designer active during the period marked by the Western expansion. Main Street with its split serifs and ornate scrollwork reflects the romantic splendor of the old west from fancy garb and Cowboy Saddles to Ice Cream Parlors and painted window signage. Main Street goes one step further by creating a base fill font which can be placed behind the regular Main Street font giving this font more of an inline appearance. You will need an application that allows layering of your fonts in order to take advantage of FontMesa Fill fonts.

A 1934 advertisement for the Roney Plaza Hotel at 23rd Street and Collins Avenue on Miami Beach yielded the inspiration for Tropical Tourist JNL. While this wonderful example of Art Deco lettering survived, sadly the original Roney was torn down around 1969 and replaced with a modern apartment house/condos bearing the same name.

The "C Elle F" is a typographic family, as a stencil letter, originally intended for cutting and engraving to carry out marking and signaling work. But of course, the very characteristic shape of these letters evokes much more. This typographic family can therefore be used for communication in various fields, commercial, import-export, military, etc.

The Nov. 26, 1921 issue of “The Moving Picture World” carried an ad for the dramatic film “For Your Daughter’s Sake” (originally tilted “The Common Sin” and produced in 1920). Hand lettered in an Art Nouveau sans serif style, the ad copy inspired Movie Drama JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Typeface was designed in 2021-2022 by Alexey Chekulaev. It has small serifs and original contours, it’s also well read in small sizes. Each style has 1400 characters of Latin, extended Cyrillic, Greek, including small caps, as well as alternate characters. A faithful reproduction of the common French Ronde of the nineteenth century; the design originates at the Inland Typefoundry in St. Louis as French Script and was revised by Morris Fuller Benton in 1905 and made popular by ATF under the name Typo Upright. Stephenson Blake also had a version available as Parisian Ronde.

Based on text used as sub-headings within a reproduction of a sales catalog for stencil punch dies manufactured by S.M. Spencer & Co. (originally of Brattleboro, VT), circa 1868. Catalog Serif JNL is available in regular, oblique, condensed, condensed oblique, extra condensed, extra condensed oblique, ultra condensed, ultra condensed oblique, compressed and compressed oblique versions.

Sully-Jonquières is Mendoza’s most original calligraphic alphabet. It was commissioned by the French publisher Henri Jonquières. Its characters are based on the shape of cursive letters. Its range of possible usages is very varied: signage, headlines, packaging, etc. It brings personality and elegance to any design. Sully-Jonquières is a trademark of BauerTypes SL

Thalia is a wonderful Artdeco typeface design reminiscent of 1900. Very likely, it was originally designed at that time. Unger redesigned the typeface based on old prints, completed the character set and expanded the typeface to cover the full Latin glyph set. Thalia is perfect for anything about theater, such as posters, programs, etc.

A spunky slim typeface inspired by a 1958 Dell Comic, The Captain and the Kids featuring the Katzenjammer Kids as a spinoff from the original comic which was in turn inspired by the famous children's story from the 1860's, Max and Moritz. Fun, informal, and retro spunky, all balled up in a single typeface.

Umbra was designed by R. Hunter Middleton for the Ludlow Corporation in 1935. This is a three-dimensional typeface, unique in that the main character shape is defined only by its shadow. It was originally designed to be a second-color drop-shadow for the typeface Tempo, but stands alone as an unusual display face.

Another one of those faces that caught my eye in one of my art deco type books, and I wanted it. After I finished the face, I noticed that there is a more clean-cut version of this face in digital format, but my version retains more of the funkiness of the original drawings.

The cover of "Intermediate Steps to the Band" (an instructional book for marching band originally published by Mills Music in 1947) featured the title in a hand lettered multi-line sans serif with Art Deco influence. Re-drawn as a digital typeface named Marching Band JNL, it is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Adelita by Adela de Bara, Laura Meseguer / OpenType, 4 styles   Adelita has its origins from Adela de Bara’s hand drawings, a display typeface with balls at the end of the strokes. Helped by Laura Meseguer, this artist entered our catalogue in the nineties with four weights: three display faces and a collection of naive dingbats.

Anzeigen Grotesk is a heavy, condensed sans serif face drawn in the style of typefaces popular during the early 20th Century. It was originally intended for use in advertising design, a field for which it is still well suited. Anzeigen Grotesk (which means “advertising sans serif” in German) is best used in larger point sizes.

BearAnark is a decorative slab-serifed typeface that can be used for some text purposes. It has moderate contrast and comes in five weights, each with a true italic. The development of the family began with a blending of two other slab-serif faces, Anarckhie and BearButteT, and this origin is reflected in its name.

VABA is a caps typeface inspired by the work of Vladimir Bartosek, Slovak designer. VABA refers to the Slovak typography in the 30ties of the last century, but it also appears modern and original in today's design. Typeface has plain, broken structure, it is significant in text, which makes it ideal as a display type.
