Deutsch Black, designed by Barry Deutsch for VGC in 1966, provided the inspiration for this extrabold exercise in heavy ink coverage. A number of variants, in lowercase slots, were added to offer flexibility to your headline designs. Neo Neo is the work of British designer Timothy Donaldson, a type style straight out of a 1950s time capsule. It can be set in all caps or a mixture of capitals and lowercase. The casual, slightly condensed forms with their smooth, soft lines are reminiscent of highway diners and motel ads of the time and convey a bright, inviting mood.

Head 'em up and roll 'em out! Western styling with a wagonful of whimsy combine in this little beauty, based on a typeface named Blackjack, designed by Vincent Pacella for Photolettering in the 1970s. Blackfriars, a Victorian-era release from the Stephenson Blake Type Foundry, provided the basis for this rough-hewn gem. Slightly clumsy yet eager to please, this typeface adds a cheerful warmth to any project it graces. The PC PostScript, TrueType and OpenType versions contain the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus support for Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

The inspiration for this elegant, willowy typeface was found in the 1903 type specimen catalog of Barnhard Brothers & Spindler. The original version was named "Racine"; this version takes its name from another town in Wisconsin. The Postscript and Truetype versions contain a complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252); in addition, the Opentype version supports Unicode 1250 (Central European) languages as well.

A delightfully different typeface named Aphrodite, designed by Richard Nebiolo for Photolettering in the 1970s, provided the pattern for this svelte beauty. Graceful and elegant, it's the perfect choice for tasteful yet commanding headlines. Retro Signs JNL collects nearly 50 designs modeled from old water transfer sign decals once manufactured by the Duro Decal Company of Chicago, Illinois and adds in a generous amount of additional phrases newly-drawn in the same hand lettered style. These vintage sign panels are perfect for creating nostalgic signage to fit projects centered around the 1950s and early 1960s.

Bill Rigney, an old job printer in my home town, established his shop in 1896, closed it in 1900 to take a steady job, stored the equipment in a large shed, and reopened for business upon his retirement in 1950. What a find! A bonanza of old type! We became good friends and upon his death I bought the type. Bless you Bill.

Cabriolet is a connected geometric script re-interpretation inspired by old chromo emblems of Chevy truck Apache of 1960. With three weight variables, it can be used in logos, games and graphic related to cars, automotive, American, Detroit, Art Deco, 1940, 1950, 1960, vintage, retro, classic and old machines. Can be expandable using underscore for connect words or expanding between letters space.

A set of oil board stencils from Great Britain (probably from the 1950s) was the model for Sussex Semi Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. Because many of the characters are ‘solid’ rather than containing the breaks [known as ‘islands’] of a traditional stencil letter, this is why the type design was given the ‘semi stencil’ designation.

This quirky charmer appeared in the 1898 specimen book of the Cleveland Type Foundry, under the name of "Litho", so it's no mystery where it got its name. It's a perfect choice for engaging headlines, anytime, anywhere. Theater posters of the 1930s were often exuberant exercises in Art Deco lettering sensibilities, and the handiwork which inspired this typeface is no different. Big, bold and oddly elegant, this face is an excellent choice for enticing and commanding headlines. The inspiration for this typeface was discovered on a 1906 travel poster, promoting the Hotel Braunwald, located in the Swiss Alps. Its odd blend of Art-Nouveau-meets-the-Old-West makes for fetching heads and subheads. Both versions include the complete Unicode Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as well as localization for Lithuanian, Moldovan and Romanian.

This statuesque semiscript is based on Mirabelle, an in-house design from the German foundry of Wagner & Schmidt, released in 1926. Round, firm and fully-packed, it's sure to get attention anywhere it's used. This hefty little number is an amalgam of two typefaces from the Flower Power era, Dave West’s Elephant Gothic and Wayne Stettler’s Neil Bold. It’s an extrabold, sassy headline face that will get your message across, loud and clear. An unnamed alphabet from wacko lettering artist Otto Heim’s 1925 opus, Farbige Alphabete, provided the pattern for this delightful, if slightly deranged, typeface. Use it any time you want to add mirth and merriment to a project. Both versions include the complete Unicode Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as well as localization for Lithuanian, Moldovan and Romanian.

Here's a faithful rendering of a typeface originally named Octic, from the 1884 specimen book of the Palmer & Rey Type Foundry of San Francisco. Its geometric severity is softened by the gently scalloped "bites" taken out of the corner. Sets tight to make attention-getting headlines. The inspiration for this typeface—originally called Elefanta—enjoyed popularity stateside in the late nineteenth century, an import from the Karl Brendler & Söhne foundry of Vienna. Its graceful yet playful elegance makes it suited for a wide range of projects where projecting warmth is desirable. This rough-hewn offering is patterned after Antikva Margaret, designed by Zoltán Nagy for VGC in the mid-60s. Its energetic and, at times, eccentric letterforms make this face a perfect choice for headlines and subheads that will be noticed. A whimsical semi-script typeface named Belcanto, designed by Edwin Sisty for Photolettering in the 1970s, provided the pattern for this typeface. Core Rhino is a contemporary typefamily designed by S-Core. The fonts have the mood of brushed feeling and come across as soft and gentle. A brand new year is here and a brand new font is here as well. I have to say I had so much fun working on this funky slab serif typeface. A festive spin off our Maiden Orange Pro typeface, Maiden Orange Inline Pro comes packed with all of the features of the original Maiden Orange Pro typeface, but adds a little more visual flavor with hand drawn inline cuts, leaning even more towards the custom hand lettered 1950’s advertisements that inspired the original. Clean and legible, while also being offbeat and friendly, this font lends itself to a wide variety of uses. The SmallCaps and extensive figure sets offer a slightly more serious tone as well as a wider range of design use.

No: Jethro Bodine didn't design this typeface although, to look at it, you might be tempted to think so. Rather, the pattern was a product of the fertile imagination of famed lettering artist Alf Becker. The lowercase letters are the same as the uppercase, but angled differently so, if you want a randomized appearance, you can activate Contextual Alternates and the font will do the shift-key double-clutching needed. Both versions include the complete Unicode Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, with localization for Moldovan and Romanian.

The family tree of this friendly face runs deep. Its primary inspiration is Twentieth Century, designed by Saul Hess as a monoline version of Paul Renner’s Futura. The design was reinterpreted by Herb Lubalin as Avant Garde in the 1970s. This version softens the harsh geometry of the original designs with rounded line endings: the result is a warm, inviting face that is elegant, confident and inviting. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

What’s the good word? This elegant, stylish typeface, based on an early twentieth-century Barnhart Brothers & Spindler release, named simply "Engravers Upright Script". Based on French ronde letterforms, this version is bolder—which makes it suitable for text settings, even at smaller sizes—and has more pronounced stroke contrast—which makes it suitable for headlines. Versatile, handsome and charming, this typeface is an invaluable addition to any type repertoire. Both versions of the font contain the complete Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

A 1963 movie poster for an Italian documentary called “Sexy Nudo” had its title lettering in a free form spur serif design reminiscent of cut paper. This inspired Winkle Picker JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. Despite the subject matter of the film documentary, the lettering on the poster is fun and playful, which meant the digital font deserved a fun name as well. It was named for a shoes and boots with sharp and long pointed toes which first gained popularity in the 1950s.

Originally Mamontov has been inspired by poster (usually wooden) types of the end of 19th—the beginning of 20th centuries. The type family was named after Savva Ivanovich Mamontov (1841-1918), Russian industrialist and patron of the arts. Massive asymmetric serifs, stocky proportions, type weight... are traces of harsh imperial reality. And soft forms of ovals, exaggerated compensators, humanistic curves of serifs and horizontal strokes betray the sensitivity and artistry of Savva Ivanovich. Mamontov has 25 styles, ranging from Light to Black and from Condensed to Wide, with more than 1000 characters per font.

Imagine there's an explosion in a comic book, the exclamation that follows is set in PAGODA INTERNATIONAL. This font is inspired by the graphics on one of Honolulu's 1950's skyscrapers - The Pagoda Hotel with the International Ballroom. Created by former wine label designer, Wesley Poole, Pagoda is the opposite of sophisticated elegance. "Big, fat, and horsy, that's what I was after. It's the wacky juxtaposition of these familiar shapes that makes it work. Just try a couple words. You'll be surprised! I'm glad this one's behind me. It's my first pancake."

Syrup is a friendly, subtly rounded type family combining sans and script styles. It’s aesthetic roots are in the sign painting of the 1950’s but the execution is distinctly modern. The different styles are designed to work well together so you can have multiple levels of typography all with the same feeling and aesthetic. Try combining the styles in different ways for maximum impact. All styles are packed with Opentype features to enable flexible customisation of your design and the font is especially well suited for branding and packaging typography.

In Lewis F. Day’s 1910 classic, Alphabets Old and New, the author presented the inspiration for this typeface as an example of German monumental lettering, most likely to suggest not that the typeface was really big, but that it had been found on German monuments. Bold yet charming, the face takes its name from a picturesque village in the Bavarian Alps which was the ancestral home of the Gröbl line of Curtii forebears. Both versions of this font include the complete Latin 1252 and CE 1250 character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Sistina, designed by Hermann Zapf in 1950 was first named Aurelia Titling. It is a heavy supplement to the Michelangelo Titling based on studies of inscriptions in Rome. First release in hotmetal at D. Stempel AG, Frankfurt in 1951. Sistina was originally an all caps font. The digital version from Linotype contains small caps. Hermann Zapf together with Akira Kobayashi, type director from Linotype had made a new revised version of Sistina now named as Palatino Imperial" in the Palatino nova type family, a Platinum Collection product from Linotype."

Letterpress type, crafted by H. Th. Wijdeveld, founding editor and chief designer of the legendary Dutch art and architecture magazine Wendingen, provided the inspiration for this typeface. The original design graced a 1925 issue examining the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, and Wijdeveld created his typeface by assembling bits of standard brass rules. This version features several of the meanders typical of Wijdeveld’s graphic design in the dagger, double dagger, ASCII tilde and ASCII circumflex positions. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Europa Grotesque is a condensed sans serif font family that was originally designed by Sam Ardell (TP) in the 1950’s for the Techni-Process Collection. Steve Jackaman (ITF) acquired the rights to the TP Collection in 1991 and produced Europa Grotesque in its digital form in 1994. Europa Grotesque has impressive impact at display and subhead sizes, and its geometric forms sustain that distinctiveness in both all-caps and lowercase. The family is flexible and freeform enough to support both a laid-back feel while still feeling tight and controlled.

The compendium Alphabete: ein Schriftaltas von A bis Z listed the pattern for this family of faces under the name Chicago which, owing to the number of other faces using the same name, makes its origins difficult to ascertain. Nonetheless, its soft lines and round forms have a timeless appeal makes this family an excellent choice for both headlines and text use. Both versions of this font include the complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, along with localization for Lithuanian, Moldovan, Romanian and Turkish.

An original typeface designed for ParaType in 2004 by Armenian designer Manvel Shmavonyan. Based on the lettering created in 1970s by outstanding Armenian type designer Henrik Mnatsakanyan (1923-2001) of the same name. In Armenian ‘Haverj’ means ‘Eternally’. The face resembles many regular text serif fonts but elements like serifs and terminals make it eccentric and a little bit funny. The shape of diagonal legs in capital K and R resembles book lettering of the 1950s—60s. Using it in text, advertising and display typography may lead to surprising effects.

Nuber Next is a modern geometric sans influenced by the popular neo-grotesques of the 1950s including Helvetica and Univers. Carefully remastered from the original Nuber type family to improve letter shape, overall uniformity and introduce a flexible width system capable of handling a wider variety of typographic applications. Details include 750 characters per font, nine weights and five widths with matching italics. Opentype features include seven variations of numerals, fractions, case-sensitive forms, stylistic alternates, ligatures, extended monetary symbols and language support covering Cyrillic, Western, South and Central Europe.

Bike Decals JNL captures the fun and nostalgia of the 1950s and 1960s when kids all around the country ran to their local five and dime or hobby store to purchase water applied decals.
