“Blackduck” font is a typical Gothic, usually named “Blackletter” . This typeface was born with the name of “Textur” and developed from Carolingian cursive. It was used in the middle age as sacred script, became increasingly narrower, his vertical lines were emphasized and his strokes very compacted to save space. Along the time the early German print typefaces derived in others styles that were more readable such as Schwabacher and Fraktur, very popular in Germany and sometimes associated to the identity of the country. The font "Blackduck" was inspired mixing carefully the last two “Blackletters”. We try to joine some characteristics of both to reach good legibility without loosing the strong impact and powerfulness of the shapes. Some minuscules like the “o” “c” “e” “d” are rounded on both sides, while both strokes join in an angle at the top and at the bottom. Some other lower cases are formed by an angular and rounded stroke. This font contains a full set of OpenType features; swashes, stylistics alternates, old style figures (Arabic numeral were carefully shape integrated), ligatures and some extras ornaments were added to help in your design. "Blackduck" includes diacritic signs for Central European languages.

Since 2005, I have repeatedly attempted to create a neutral-looking grotesque with a humanistic character. I wanted a pleasant, soft typeface. The typeface should appear similar to Helvetica or Univers, but with more open shapes and therefore better readability. The features are deliberately reserved with 4 gradations plus italics. The onum feature for Old Style Figures contains additional alternative letters such as a looped g. The italics have a swash feature with some decorative shapes. As a sans serif, HGB Bacco does not appear to be technically constructed, but has a friendly, open character and is also suitable for longer texts.

Lately I have been experimenting with different foods. At home, we eat a lot of Asian food, but I thought it would be nice to broaden my culinary horizon a bit. So far I have (successfully) added Georgian beef and walnut soup, Tacos (after a suggestion by my friend Stuart), Surinam Roti and various vegetarian dishes to our menu. When I created this font, I had to think of Gumbo - a dish I have never made. Gumbo is a handmade display font that comes in a rotund regular and an obese bold (with Italics). Use it for your book covers, product packaging and sticky notes. Gumbo comes with cute ‘end of word’ ligatures - just type the glyph + space and presto: you have a little swash. As for the dish Gumbo, well, I will make that this weekend!

A few nights ago, I was dreaming about making a cute font that the children in the city would love. I only remember some characters of the font but I thought that it was a sign to make a new font. It seems black crayons are out of stock where I live. I can buy all the colors I want, except black ones… I really needed a crayon, so I bought this ridiculously expensive professional marker crayon ($14 for 1!!!) and created this font. Use it for… well, uhm, dunno… book covers, product packaging and restaurant menus? Just have a ball!

I have always liked the word ‘quite’ - you can stick it in a sentence and all of a sudden that sentence looks quite sophisticated! Quite Something may not be all that sophisticated; in fact, it is a rather messy font. But that’s where the fun begins! Use it for your children’s book covers, toy packaging and posters. The name Otis arose from an incident in a shopping mall in which, realising my shoelace was undone while on an escalator, I bent down to tie it, became aware of the approaching end, panicked, fell over, and in the process happened to notice the escalator's brand name.

After my son was born, I found myself reading him a lot of books. A LOT of books. Some were good, some were great, but I found myself wanting to develop something using my skills and interests to make something that only I could make. In short, I realized my son needed to be indoctrinated—I mean, introduced into the wonderfully wild world of fonts. So, I set about to make a board book to teach about typography, called “The Clothes Letters Wear.” You can learn more about the book here. I’ve made the captivating illustrations bright and colorful, and the use of different letter forms makes for a fascinating read to delight ages young and young at heart. And, as an added bonus, this children’s book has a custom designed font. I’m always looking for an excuse to design a new font, and this book created the perfect alibi. Drum roll, please. I now give you … Cabrito (“little goat” en Español). This new serif typeface incorporates the latest research on typographic legibility for children, features to make it—well, extra legible. A little background: studies show that Bookman Old Style is one of the most readable typefaces, and as a consequence or perhaps the reason why, it is used thoroughly for children’s books. This font became my initial inspiration for the typeface. Then, I found more legibility research saying that (brace yourselves) Comic Sans is also very legible for beginning readers, much due to the large x-height and softer, easily recognizable forms. In addition, forms that are closer to handwriting also seem to be more legible. Once I threw all that into my cauldron and stewed it a bit, the result was a pleasantly rounded typeface that includes not-so-strictly geometric, handwriting-inspired forms for the b, d, p, and q. ITC Aspera is the product of graphic experimentation. Olivera Stojadinovic, who designed the face, recalls, Over the last 15 years, I have made several small prints using Cyrillic characters. Often, I made my first sketches with a special pointed brush which was difficult to manipulate well, but once tamed, gave me interesting results." Stojadinovic decided to see if she could reproduce the unique brush quality in digital form. "The idea was to preserve the look of strokes made by my brush, so I kept the scanned shapes as close as possible to the originals, making interventions just to maintain consistent proportions, slope and weight." While this typeface is not a connecting script, Stojadinovic did create a number of letters, such as the 'o' and 's' that are natural connecting characters.
