  4. Edita by TypeTogether, $49.00
Edita is a gentle typeface, humanistic in concept yet with a contemporary feel, where softness and fluidity play a very important role. This can be seen especially in its italics, which are loosely based on handwriting. This book typeface family is intended to be used in books where text is set together with photographs and other graphic elements. However, Edita is a general book typeface, versatile enough to be used in many other contexts, from novels to promotion material. Edita’s large character set, covering most languages which use Latin script, and styles give the designer the possibility to work with a big typographic palette, allowing complex typesetting with several levels of information. This is further enhanced by the two optically corrected weights Edita Small and Small Italic. They have been particularly designed for their use in very small type sizes, such as in captions and notes. They differ in having a slightly bigger x-height, heavier stems, reduced contrast, and carefully drawn ink-traps to ensure legibility at sizes as small as 5 pt. Additionally, their extenders are shorter to save space which allows text to be set with tighter leading.
  5. Arable by Heyfonts, $18.00
Arable Font Is "Unique Display Font" refers to a specific type of typography that is characterized by its distinctive, one-of-a-kind design, and it is typically used for eye-catching and decorative purposes. Here's a detailed explanation of what a unique display font is: -Distinctive Design: Unique display fonts stand out because of their distinct and unconventional design. They often deviate from traditional letterforms and can take on a wide range of creative and artistic shapes. Unlike standard, legible fonts used for body text, display fonts prioritize aesthetics over readability. -Specialized Use: Display fonts are not intended for extended reading. Instead, they are used in small quantities for headlines, titles, logos, posters, banners, invitations, and other design elements where visual impact is essential. Their unique and attention-grabbing design makes them ideal for drawing attention to specific text. -Creative Freedom: Designers have creative freedom when creating unique display fonts. This allows for a wide array of styles, from whimsical and ornate to futuristic and abstract. Some display fonts may be inspired by art movements, cultures, historical periods, or nature, leading to highly original and thematic designs. -Limited Character Set: Display fonts often have a limited character set compared to standard fonts. They typically include uppercase letters, numbers, and basic punctuation marks, but may lack lowercase letters or extended characters. This limitation is due to their specialized use and focus on visual impact. -Customization: Some unique display fonts are custom-designed for specific projects or brands. Designers work closely with clients to create a font that aligns with the brand's identity or the project's theme, ensuring a truly unique and tailored result. -Combination with Other Fonts: In many design projects, unique display fonts are paired with more standard, legible fonts to achieve a balance between visual impact and readability. This combination allows for a harmonious and effective overall design.

  7. Keratine by Zetafonts, $39.00
The letterforms that we now accept as the historical standard for printing latin alphabets were developed in Italy around the end of 1400. Deriving from Roman capitals and from italic handwriting, they soon replaced the blackletter letterforms that were used a few years before by Gutenberg for his first moveable types. Between these two typographical traditions there's an interesting and obscure middle ground of historical oddballs, like the Pannartz-Sweynheym Subiaco types, cut in Italy in 1462. Keratine is the result of Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini's exploration of that territory. Like our Kitsch by Francesco Canovaro it explores the impossible territory between antiqua and blackletter, not as a mere historical research, but rather as a way to re-discover and empower an unexpected and contemporary dynamism. Using contemporary digital aesthetics to combine the proportions of humanistic type with the gestural energy of Fraktur letterforms, Keratine develops a "digitally carved", quasi-pixelated appearance (clearly stressed in Keratine's italics) that allows an unexpected balance between small-size readability and display-size personality. Keratine also relies heavily on a variable identity as the letterforms change dynamically with weight, developing from a contrasted, text-oriented light range to more expressive and darker display range, for a total of 8 weights with italics. Open type features and glyph alternates further enrich the usage possibility of this typeface that embodies our contemporary swap culture by embracing the contradictory complexity at the crossroads between Gothic and Humanist styles, while playfully empathising with a digital, brutalist spirit.

  11. Sintesi Serif by FSdesign-Salmina, $-
Sans meets serif. Would you like to express tradition by using a contemporary font? Sintesi might be exactly what you are looking for. Sintesi stands for synthesis: the unification of serif and sans-serif into a contemporary font, which surprises with different facets depending on its application. In copy size Sintesi performs like a sans-serif. It is a compact and well readable font that fulfills all requirements of modern digital media. In larger sizes, Sintesi unfolds its traditional character. Now, its strong contrast and the perceptible feather-ductus stand out clearly, as we appreciate it in a historical old style face. Sintesi is completed by a suitable italic. Its cursive character has more to do with writing-speed than to moderate inclination. Therefore Sintesi may be well-suited for many other purposes, not only for emphasis. The whole font family consists of 20 styles and offers a wide range of Western and Eastern European special characters, typographical ligatures, uppercase, oldstyle and fraction figures. Sintesi (Serif) builds together with Sintesi Semi and Sintesi Sans an extended family. Start combining antiquity with modernity! Download a free trial version of Sintesi with a reduced character set. Surviving cultural expressions of the Diaguita people are reduced to just a few pieces of beautifully decorated pottery of high technical quality. Canilari itself is a scream of identity with an incomparable tone that borrows elements from native America and proudly show them to the world. The intense and consistent personality of Canilari makes it a functional font for a wide range of uses: from continuous text in the most challenging environments to pithy, high-impact headlines. 33. Elido by Kontour Type, $50.00
Elido (Odile in reverse) is the sans counterpart to the Odile type. Together they form a sans/serif superfamily with a wide range of variations for editorial use. Elido follows Odile’s proportions and matches the weight and typographic color of its serif twin. Elido is a sans with classical proportions. A slight geometric hint and open counters convey an airy feel. Elido’s family structure and relations within echo the conceptual approach of Odile. The arched stroke low off the stem reveals a script characteristic most pronounced in the Elido Upright Italic. This particular interpretation is gradually diminished in the Italic and becomes even less emphasized in the Regular. Six balanced weights, from an elegant Light to a pronounced Black, are in tune with three display solutions and a set of beautiful Ornaments. These variants allow for a diverse and multifaceted typography for the discerning type user. Sans serif initials amount to a rare finding. The charming monolinear Elido Initials come in two flavors, elaborate and rational, designed to hold their own in editorial and headline sizes. This type design boasts an extensive character set, many OpenType features including roman and italic Small Caps, five sets of numerals, beautiful ligatures, and many more. OT stylistic variants (with accents) offer a one-story “a” for the roman weights, alternate “g” and “s” designs for the italics, and a variant glyph “s” for the Upright Italic. These distinct qualities with its versatile and sincere traits make Elido an excellent choice for text and display use.
  34. Klaklak by Fontroll, $20.00
Oh no, not another typewriter font! But Klaklak is different. Not only has Klaklak four weights from worn out ink (light) to typing twice (bold), an Italic (which is Regular with authentic underlines as there is no Italic on typewriters) and an x-through font called Klaxxx (no need to erase your typos – just x them out (just kidding 😊)). It also does a lot to avoid repeating letterforms by first replacing about 320 common letter combinations by ligatures and then mixing them up with 4 style sets which results in about 1300 ligatures and more than 2600 glyphs in total per font. The result is a very realistic appearance of a mechanical typewriter. All you have to do is turn on Ligatures and Contextual Alternates in your favourite layout app. Of course Klaklak is multilingual, supports a lot of Latin based languages and has all glyphs for even demanding layout tasks. Enjoy!

  36. Academica by Storm Type Foundry, $44.00
Josef Týfa first published the Academia typeface in 1967-68. It was the winning design from competition aimed at new typeface for scientific texts, announced by Grafotechna. It was cut and cast in metal in 1968 in 8 and 10 point sizes of plain, italic and semi-bold designs. In 2003 Josef Týfa with František Štorm began to work on its digital version. During 2004 Týfa approved certain differences from the original drawings in order to bring more original and timeless feeling to this successful typeface. Vertical stem outlines are no more straight, but softly slendered in the middle, italics were quietened, uppercase proportions brought closer to antique principle. Light and Black designs served (as usual) as starting points for interpolation of remainig weights. The new name Academica distinguishes the present digital transcription from the original idea. 37. An unconventional classicistic Roman typeface This Roman typeface has a livelier effect than is typical of the epoch of classicistic style. In the lower case letters, an echo of the smoother forms of historically early scripts is identifiable. Typical of a classicistic Roman typeface are the emphasized and clear contrast in the weight of the strokes, the fine serifs and the accentuation of the vertical bold stem. Charpentier Classicistique is pleasantly legible. Its effect is much less harsh than other classicistic fonts. The pointed forms of M and N are uncommon. At 30°, the italic version of Charpentier Classicistique is unusually strongly slanted. The italic lower case letters refer, in part, to English handwriting, which also falls under classicism. Especially the curves show forms influenced by writing. Charpentier Classicistique supports all European languages including Turkish, Greek and Russian. It includes lots of ligatures, also discretional ones, as well as tabular figures and cap-height figures.

  40. Madurai Slab by insigne, $24.00
Chennai’s market-tested type styles have taken new form once again. The geometric forms of Chennai and its derivant Madurai, both successful in web-based applications and logotypes, have now been adapted for the superfamily Madurai Slab, a potent, square slab serif ideal for headlines and posters. Under the surface of Madurai Slab’s straightforward geometric structure, the font’s exaggerated vertical serifs provide the face with an extra chunk that commands the reader’s attention and gives the font more impact in its heavier styles. The extra-fortified forms are anything but monotonous, though. The bolder structure of the slab is instead rational, diligently thought-out, with minimally contrasting strokes, making the sturdier look particularly legible in shorter textual content blocks. This child of Madurai contains a comprehensive range of nine weights--slender to black--and features condensed and extender selections for a complete set of fifty-four fonts. All users of the Madurai Slab collection can access numerous OpenType alternates. Madurai Slab is furnished for experienced typographers, together with alternates, compact caps and many alts like “normalized” capitals and lowercase letters that come with stems. The typeface also contains a range of numeral sets, together with fractions, old-style and lining figures with superiors and inferiors. OpenType-capable programs including Quark or the Adobe suite allow quick changes to ligatures and alternates. Previews of these options can be found in the .pdf brochure. Madurai Slab also features the glyphs to enable all Central, Eastern and Western European languages. In all, Madurai Slab supports around forty languages that utilize the prolonged Latin script, making it an excellent option for multi-lingual publications and packaging. This richness of options makes this the best slab serif family for websites as well as for print, motion graphics, logos, t-shirts and the like. Madurai Slab is a great choice when looking for a Neo-Grotesque slab serif font. In the hands of a learned designer, this new slab offers the potential for beautiful and well-blended layouts. With its widths adjusting to compact and extended content blocks, this typeface is perfect for the headings, captions and other brief, immediate messages that you need to drive your message home.
