  1. Chaco by Tipo, $69.00
The idea behind the font called Chaco originated after testing the deficiency shown in road signs in Latin America. The design began after a long documenting period. Throughout the various stages of the work,  there were several  tests and checks  conducted of the formal solutions implemented which, based on the results, would gradually be changed until we finally reached, in this way, its definite design. The original project for the font features three steps, namely: regular, light and bold, yet by making progress in the development, it was possible for us to perceive that by enlarging the black and thin variances, the family with 5 different weights could offer very good results in mass media, such as newspapers, magazines and television. In order to expand its possibilities of utilization, the set was completed with italics and small capitals.

  13. Report School by Typodermic, $11.95
Report School is a geometric sans-serif typeface that was inspired by student handwriting practice worksheets. But don’t worry, it’s not just a copy of those worksheets. Report School is designed to be easily readable, with legible letterforms that make it perfect for use in educational materials. You might be wondering what makes Report School different from other school-oriented geometric sans-serif typefaces. Well, for starters, it’s designed with readability in mind. While other typefaces might prioritize pure geometry, Report School puts legibility first. That means that when you use Report School, your readers will have an easier time reading your text. And speaking of easier reading, Report School has some features that are designed to make things even more legible. For example, instead of using straight quotes for inches, feet, or degrees, you can use primes. And Report School has regular primes, double primes, and triple primes, so you can choose the right one for your needs. Plus, the numerals in Report School are tabular, which means they’re vertically aligned for easier math equation alignment. But that’s not all! If you’re using OpenType savvy applications like InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop, you can access even more features. For example, you can use the stylistic alternates feature to access the letters “I” and “J” with no serifs, as well as a straight lowercase “q”. And if you’re looking for something a little different, you can check out Report School’s rounded version, called Report, or a version with casual strokes, called Sweater School. If you’re looking for a typeface that’s easy to read, but still has some personality, look no further than Report School. It’s the perfect choice for any educational materials that need to be both legible and stylish. Most Latin-based European writing systems are supported, including the following languages. 15. Art School by AVP, $25.00
Faithfully reproduced from my father’s design drawings made at The Municipal School of Arts and Crafts, Wolverhampton in 1939. Strong nostalgic influences of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. What caught my eye was the consistency with which each particular character was formed: every ‘R’ like every other, every ‘S’ the same. Tight letter spacing and loose word spacing characterised his titling but he didn’t trust himself to print without first ruling guidelines, a hint of which remain in this font.

  17. School Age by Jeff Levine, $29.00
The “Trixy Toy Educator” was a 1930s-era set of letters and numbers (along with a few animal shapes) for teaching children, and was manufactured by the Durrel Company of Gardner, Massachusetts. Die cut from thick cardboard, the 40 piece set also included a rack to display the characters, presumably for little ones to practice the correct order of the alphabet and basic numerals or to spell simple words like ‘dog’ or ‘cat’. Whomever came up with the idea, they used the most rudimentary and unusual ‘type design’ shapes in the A-Z and 0-9, but they were just odd enough to inspire a digital type version of them. School Age JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

  31. FF Cocon by FontFont, $65.99
FF Cocon’s designer, Evert Bloemsma (1958—2005) described it as a “serious typeface”. Despite first impressions, the description holds up well. Since its 2001 release, FF Cocon has been used in an astoundingly wide variety of design applications. At large sizes, FF Cocon works as a display face, with beautiful detailing. And at small sizes, it remains surprisingly readable. The lowercase letters a, b, d, g, h, m, n, p, q, r and u, were drawn without spurs, as Bloemsma made an attempt to erase every trace of handwriting; even “normal,” neutral sans serif typefaces still retain elements in their letterforms like this. Bloemsma wanted none of it. Although a difficult starting point for a typeface, this proved successful. Bloemsma’s design is a family of rounded yet rather asymmetrical forms with details reminiscent of brush-strokes, but that were not made with a brush in hand. In spite of its claim to seriousness, FF Cocon is a family of seductive, voluptuous styles. The original FF Cocon had two widths—normal and condensed. Later, a more compact Extra Condensed version was introduced, as well as italics.
