San Marco is a part of the 1990 program Type before Gutenberg, which included the work of twelve contemporary font designers and represented styles from across the ages. San Marco was designed by Karlgeorg Hoefer and brings to mind the style of the Italian Gothic found on the cathedrals of Milan and Florence as well as on the facade of St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice. Its highly stylized characters make San Marco a good choice for extravagant typography.

Xanthine… is a purine base found in most human body tissues. Yes, you can forget that. I don’t even know what it means, but I suddenly realised that I was running low on fonts with an ‘x’ in the name. Xanthine font is a messy brush: it is all caps, but upper and lower case mingle freely. It comes with a whole bunch of diacritics and some interesting ligatures as well. I have included a very handy shapez pack and a truckload of arrows - anything to make you happy…

It seems only fitting that Pleasant Valley Sundae JNL, a typeface re-drawn from hand lettering on a piece of vintage sheet music, should take its name as a pun on another song's title from a different era. "Pleasant Valley Sunday" was a 1967 hit for the Monkees and was written by the legendary songwriting team of Carole King and the late Gerry Goffin; inspired in turn by a street they'd lived on named Pleasant Valley Way, in West Orange, New Jersey. The record made it to #3 on the pop charts.

The Armanen runes (or Armanen Futharkh) are a series of 18 runes, closely based on the historical Younger Futhark, introduced by Austrian mysticist and Germanic revivalist Guido von List in his Das Geheimnis der Runen (English: "The Secret of the Runes"), published as a periodical article in 1906, and as a standalone publication in 1908. The name Armanen runes associates the runes with the postulated Armanen, whom von List saw as ancient Aryan priest-kings. The Armanen runes continue in use today in esotericism and in currents of Germanic neopaganism.

ITC Tremor is the work of British designer Alan Dempsey. You might think that it looks like the letters are in a seismically lively geological zone, but Dempsey had other kinds of motion in mind. Most of the faces I design come from trace 'work-outs' for advertising products. In the case of Tremor, it was to reflect a lively teenager," says Dempsey. The result is ITC Tremor, a cartoony slab serif typeface with irregular angles, straight-edged curves, and lines surrounding each character, making them look like they are jittery.

Modern Elvish is a humanist sans serif typeface created for the Tengwar “English” mode as popularized in the Lord of the Rings books and films. I imagined the famous elves of this lore living in contemporary times and needing a no nonsense modern typeface for their branding, communications and UX design. Ragnar can be called a typeface for compact typography. It is loosely related to the Saga typeface in many ways, even including its name. During discussing on what Saga should be called, the name "Ragnarök" (Twilight of the Gods) was humorously suggested. "Ragnarök" would of course have been unsuitable, since it uses a letter with a diacritic sign, and in many computer systems, that is a deadly sin. But the shorter form, Ragnar, was kept in mind, and later used for this typeface. Additionally, Ragnar is a common male Scandinavian name.

Liquoia are three scripts with lots of contrast and different embellishments. Liquoia-A has the elegant, flaming decoration it blends well with Fleurons-Six. Liquoia-B has the flowery embellishments and goes very well with my Ornata-A and Ornata-B. Liquoia-C is the plain, straightforward and solid floating script. The name is derived from "liquid", meaning it is a fluid script that has a distinctive waveform. The "oia" part of the name comes from Sequoia, the sturdiest tree that came to my mind. I have had the name "Fruitcake Fanatics" in my mind for quite some time now...but I needed a font that suited the name...then one day...actually last Wednesday, I was playing around with some letters (which eventually would turn out to be this font!) and suddenly it struck me: I got the letters for my Fruitcake Fanatics font! Another story could be - what does the name mean?! Well, to tell you the truth, I don't know - but what I do know is that the font is playful and unpredictable and loads of fun!

The evocative and original Retrofit is based on typefaces of the 1940s and 50s, which extolled the virtues of American products in glossy magazines for the new suburban consumer. Oversized terminal bulbs and occasional slab serifs lend a rhythm and a bouncing baseline provides just the "zing" to spice up that bland typographic treatise. Retrofit's easy familiarity can be seen on children's books, games, food packaging, and other places where a kid friendly note is needed. Retrofit has been adapted by Quickutz for their punched letter cutting tool, and re-named "Maggie".

Designed by Olivier Gourvat in 2014, Filson Pro is a new geometric sans serif family with versatility in mind. With its 575 glyphs and its round aspect, this typeface covers all kind of graphic and web design projects. This font family contains 16 fonts from Thin to Black with a professional range of Opentype functions such as pro kerning,lining and oldstyle figures, stylistic alternates, case sensitive forms, localized forms and f-ligatures. Last year I walked half of Offa’s Dyke path, a long distance trail on the Welsh/English border. Walking the trail, I came across a beautiful stretch of forest with a lovely name: Cadora Woods. Cadora Woods font was made with a Japanese brush pen. It sort of looks medieval and a friend of mine suggested it would be the font of choice for maps of ‘The Shire’. I guess that is true, but I am convinced you can come up with some innovative uses for this font!

Vegetability: “The quality or state of being vegetable”. Yes, I know: it’s kinda weird, but I quite like the name of this font! I am trying to become a vegetarian (I am a ‘flexitarian’ right now) and I was trying to find a good veggie recipe for dinner, when this name crossed my mind. Vegetability is a handwritten font with a dash of roughness, a splash of attitude and a pinch of class. Comes with a whole bunch of diacritics and double letter ligatures for the lower case letters.

Mumford began as a revival of the early designs for sans serif fonts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but along the way it morphed into a reinterpretation of this style and it adaptation to more contemporary shapes. It's strong contrast, signature of the design, works along it 9 weight variables each with their corresponding oblique. Each variable includes extended language support (+ Cyrillic), fractions, tabular figures, ligatures and opentype features. Mumford was design with strong graphic display design in mind, perfectly suited for poster, magazine headers, titles and editorial design.

An interesting hand lettered example of Art Deco lettering (minus the letter ‘L’) was spotted on Pinterest and served as the inspiration for Deco Sketch JNL. Because there was no attribution as to the age or source of the alphabet, it can only be surmised that it was a scan from a 1930s or 1940s source. The original showed many of the irregularities of pen lettering, and had rounded terminals. The digital version has been redrawn more uniformly with flat terminals. Deco Sketch JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

A bold powerful design with a bit of Latin flare, great for headlines yet suitable for text.
