The Roundup family was inspired by fonts from the late 19th century, though it is not based on any one of them. Roundup-Caps was the first of the group to be constructed. It has two sets of upper-case letters that have minor differences. It has reverse contrast, that is, the verticals are thinner than the horizontals. Unlike most of the "Old-West" fonts with reverse contrast, the serifs are not square but have an odd, rounded shape. Roundup-Regular replaced the second set of caps with lower-case letters. A bold style strengthens the vertical elements so that it no longer has reverse contrast. Both the regular and bold styles have matching oblique styles. Finally, there is a hollow version with a shadow to the lower right. This shadowed style has had its inside taken out, creating RoundUp-ShadowInside. The spacing is the same as RoundUpShadowed so it can be layered over RoundUpShadowed to easily create two-colored lettering.

Buddy is the new companion sans for Contenu, the book font family designed for my book on font design design. Originally, I called it Compagnon, but that seemed to pompous. Then I called it Aide, but that was too formal and dry. It's a loose, free, easy to read sans, so when my wife suggested Buddy, it clicked. This is the 4-font Buddy family of Regular, Italic, Bold, & Bold Italic. I made a new, more limited feature set for these fonts due to their designed usage, but there are still small caps, small cap figures, oldstyle figures, numerators, and denominators. The bold is closer to a black, and the italics are only slightly slanted obliques. If you need a strong black in caps, use the small caps of the bold.

His first thought is “How sweet; how very nice to hear from her.” His second thought is,”Great font potential; I could use this.” And he did. Carissa has a fresh, spontaneous feel, with a wonderful use of uppercase letters (B and R, etc.) within the lower case. Useful as a personal font or for an off-beat menu...

Jean Evans' interest in type design dates back to her third-grade fascination with fancy script writing. Years later, work at a sign-painting school she found in the Yellow Pages® cemented her relationship with letterforms. Evans went on to study with master calligraphers and type designers, including the likes of Donald Jackson, Hermann Zapf and Matthew Carter. Evans' designs have been exhibited and collected around the globe, and her distinctive calligraphic style has been lauded by leading trade organizations, annuals and publications. Hatmaker, one of Evans' more popular typefaces, was originally developed for the Boston-based broadcast design firm of the same name. Inspiration for the design came from Ben Shahn's famous hand-constructed alphabet. Shahn's alphabet, however, was limited to capital letters. Daunted by the idea of designing a lowercase that would measure up to Shahn's capitals, I developed a second set of caps-simple, quirky, yet almost classic-to work as 'lowercase' with the Shahn-like caps," explains Evans. Luciano Vergara has designed very strong fonts with a particular work in the lines study and close to the geometry since 2005, getting a structure style, you can see in his fonts specially Regia and Kahlo. Now he integrated his study of lines, in a hairline font delicate, continuous and beautiful. In this story both designers have been merged their worlds creating a gorgeous product. This is a romantic type story, a love story.

When Patricia Lillie was growing up, she thought the coolest thing in the world would be finding her own name listed in a library catalog. The fantasy came true in 1986 when her first children's book was published. Five more followed. The thrill of seeing her work on library shelves hasn't abated, but today, Lillie is just as likely to see one of her typefaces on the cover of a book. She has created several display faces and image fonts. My first typeface designs were based on lettering I'd done while working for a library, doing graphics work for the children's section," she explains. "I currently do a lot of web design, but type is my favorite thing." The Tickles (ITC Tickle and ITC Tickle Too) are Lillie's first ITC typeface releases. "I was playing around with a Sharpie marker one day and liked the way the letters looked," she recalls. "I started redoing the letters from scratch in Fontographer to see what developed, and liked those letters too." ITC Tickle is a bi-form font (with both cap and lowercase letters of the same size) that clearly breaks a typographic rule or two. ITC Tickle Too has the same basic lettershapes, but they've grown clusters of stipples that give a three-dimensional quality to the design.
