Low cost electronic displays have a fixed number of segments that can be turned on or off to represent different symbols. A digital watch would be the most common example. Fonts typically available for depicting electronic displays are often in the artistic style of these common LED or LCD displays. They provide the look-and-feel, but fall short when technical accuracy is required. The typeface which inspired this offering was originally called "Chaucer", not because it is typical of lettering of Chaucer’s time (which it is not) but, more likely, because it’s pretty funny, even if the humor is low. Another purveyor of low humor, Mack Sennett and his Keystone Kops, suggested this version’s name. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode Latin 1252 and Central European 1250 character sets.

Chicory is a beautiful new calligraphic typeface with a touch of elegance. The narrow chancery style is perfect for formal invitations, newsletter mastheads, menus and greeting cards.

This quasi-Chancery classic is a revival of Walter MacKay’s Heritage typeface, made for ATF in 1952. Walter is clean and legible free-flowing calligraphy with a subdued, conservative and traditional letterform base that can be used in large sizes for posters, covers and packaging, as well as in relatively small sizes for personalized letters, poetry and quotables. Walter comes with 430 glyphs and support the majority of Latin-based languages. Plenty of alternates and ligatures are sprinkled throughout the font.

Strijkijzer is a funfont. It originated as a joke between friends. Do not take too seriously for it. But it is complete. Download it for free and swing your iron.

P22 Virginian is an historic script font designed by Ted Staunton for his historic novel centered around a family bible and the handwritten annotation through 7 generations. The Virginian font is strongly influenced by classic “Chancery cursive” script.

Originally designed by calligrapher Arthur Baker, Marigold font was released by Agfa Compugraphic in 1989. Marigold font is narrow in width like the chancery hand, and its shapes are true to the prescribed Renaissance proportions. The authentic handwritten look makes it versatile for a large variety of informal uses.

ITC Freemouse was designed by Slobodan Miladinov in 1998. It is a fresh font, with the look of a chancery italic. ITC Freemouse's design displays a lively contrast of stroke and curve, which captures the expressiveness of calligraphic writing, combining it with the modern look of a digital typeface.

A light chancery script font influenced by both the hand-held pen and the typefounder’s machinery. The curves are reminiscent of the beak of the avocet, a wading bird. This font was originally engraved in metal and copper matrices made for casting into hot metal type for letterpress printing.

Trapped home during the Coronavirus outburst of March 2020 the Zetafonts team found some solace from the world-wide anxiety by designing letters for the #36daysoftype challenge. To fight dark thoughts and spread some good karma we decided to add a free font twist, selecting the best glyphs drawn to develop a collection of ten free typefaces for download. We did our best to make this little gift to the community valuable, though developed in record time: although playful and excessive, these typefaces all stem from our current research in contemporary trends and historical design solutions, bridging calligraphy and design. The typefaces have been published daily starting Monday, March 30. You can download and use the typefaces in any way you desire, as they are totally free for commercial and non-commercial use.
